Why I love photography

A moonflower brings joy and happiness!

It fills me with awe and gratitude as I watch it unfold.

It lifts me up in faith and optimism
                                                   to see something so beautiful.

My purpose, to share this beauty with others.

I feel compassion
and empathy for its short life
as it folds up
dying in the morning light.

Those feelings are why I love photography.
Feelings to be revisited.

if they had eyes to see it."

Seeing without Color

Imagine a world without color.
Morning sun finding its way to start the day.

Sunbeams and clouds above the mountains.

                                 Flowers dying
                                      and in full bloom.

Trees in a row,

And trees reflected in still water.

Brightly lit windows that keep out the dark.

                                                        Storm clouds over the water.

Don't let your world be black and gray and white.
The same every day, drab and boring.

See life like this sky!
Swept with pink and blue, gold and orange!
Throw in some green and red, purple and violet!

Color your world!

Walk to the Waterfall

A few weeks ago, I was out in the forest walking to a waterfall.
This was at the beginning of the path, Nature's Greeter!

Then the path narrowed and was in shade
a rocky, tree root path, that made me look to the ground
more than straight ahead.

But I did look stop and look up;
And my eyes saw these leaves!

And this spot of fall color!

And this rock wall covered reaching for the sky!

The path meandered around and around.

And it meandered next to the river!

Oh my, the river!

The sound of water flowing over rock,
swishing, burbling and whispering.

The little calm pools with shadows and reflections.

The water and the green of the forest as one.

Then I could hear a roaring sound that
made my feet seem lighter
and the heat not so hot
and my heart skipped at beat as
I turned a bend in the path
and saw this..the waterfall!

Water falling over rock, life moving.

Someone had built a rock cairn near the base
of the waterfall.
Cairns were originally intended as trail markers
to show the way in treeless areas.
I have seen cairns built along trails before;
they were not necessarily markers.
At each location, I had the same feeling.
A cairn is a temple built to commemorate
the journey, give thanks to the Earth
and  the joy of being close to Nature.
Other people will notice cairns so it makes
them pause, look and be still.

Be still and just be.

About Light

Morning Light moves the Night away.

It wakes up the flowers.

It shows us the way,

And points out things we need to see!

It puts sparkly stars upon the water.

But evening light
 is soft and gentle,

Filling me with peace.

Do you see the Light?

A Silent Walk in the Forest

Alone, I walk the pine forest path
green and brown,
twisting and winding
its way down hill,

Just being
Seeing

                               Look! red and  gold

The path  flattens and changes to
a carpet of softness,
lush and green and damp.
Then, flowers greet me,

                                                                    Mother Nature's gifts
                                                                  growing along the path.

Before I round the bend,
I can hear the burbling
and then the River sings for me!

The path beyond the river is different,
as I climb up and away,
trees are heavy with leaves,
oaks, birch and maples
and others I can't name.

Reaching for the sky
with ferns growing in the shade
of their outflung limbs.

And then,
a mountain laurel shedding its bloom
makes a carpet of white and pink
amid the brown and green
of the forest.

I am alone but yet not,
I feel the Presence.
  I love the forest
and it loves me.
