Embrace this Space Day 68/100dayproject

I found some leaves that have a little sun and heat damage.  It has been dry (I did water!) with temperatures in the mid 80's.   False summer is here for now but spring will be back for a short spell.

Nothing happening that I can see.  Plants grow in their own time frame.

This drop is not rain.

I had to water my flowerbeds since we have had very warm weather and no rain for over a week.

Embrace this Space Day 65/100dayproject

Watching the allium grow.  Some is moving faster than others.
If you notice something that looks like part of a toilet paper holder, it is.  I cut these in circles to place around bulbs so that I know where they are in the ground.   Works for seeds too.

Repurpose the garbage!

Embrace this Space Day 64/100dayproject

Next to the flower bed there is a forsythia bush that hangs over the bed.

Today, I noticed a lady bug or some kind of beetle having a pollen meal on a leaf.

I decided to take away the color of the marigolds today.

Not much is happening in the flower bed today

Embrace this Space Day 60/100dayproject

Day 60...just a month and ten days to complete this photo journey.  It has been a lesson in seeing the same thing with new eyes every day.  Being open to the tiny little changes instead of the big picture.

Today a few leaves are turning yellowish and have gotten some stripes.   If I had not looked closely with intention I would not have seen this.

Embrace this Space Day 59/100dayproject

The day got away from me before I remembered I had to take a photo so late in the day I took a phone photo of the bed.  That is all for today!

Embrace this Space Day 57/100dayproject

When allium wants to reach for the sunshine, nothing gets in its way. This shoot pushed its way through an oak leaf.   I am amazed at the power of tiny plants.

Today I planted the marigolds in the front row of the flower bed.  It really brightens up the space!

Embrace this Space Day 53/100dayproject

Getting ready to add some new color to this bed for the summer.  Since the daffodils were yellow I am keeping with the same color and will plant these right next to the brick edging.  The taller allium will be in the back with whatever else might bloom in the middle.

Embrace this Space Day 52/100dayproject

Today I decided to cut the leaves of the daffodils and snowdrops short so that the other flowers trying to come out in the flower bed would get some sunshine.   I think that some of the shoots are the day lilies but I also spied a couple of iris stems.   I did not know they were in this bed!     The allium has shoots above the ground now so it will get more sunshine also.

Embrace this Space Day 50/100dayproject

Yeah!  Half way through the project of taking a photo a day of one of my flower beds.  Since the bed has not produced the blooms of daffodils and snowdrops that it previously had, this has been a struggle.  Thankful for rain that helped to add a differently look to the photos.  Doing this project does make me look closely at everything that is happening in the bed...including fire ants that I had to poison.

Today's photo is a snowdrop and two seed pods.  I learned that bulb plants like snowdrops and daffodils will produce seed pods but to harvest the seeds takes time and effort and the seeds may not germinate for several years with bulbs coming up at about five years.  It also said that the seed pods take needed nutrients from the bulbs so it is best to remove the seed pods so the bulb will be healthy.

I will stick to the bulbs!

On to the second 50 days of photos!

Embrace this Space Day 49/100dayproject

The wide angle view.  The sundial was my Mom's.  The pineapple sage is just outside the flower bed.
The forsythia is about to be finished with its blooms.   Nothing happening in the flower bed.
I think I will get some kind of  annual flower to put in there soon.  Something that will get a little taller than all the the green leaves.  I definitely want some color here before the allium gets grown this summer and the day lilies bloom.

Embrace this Space Day 48/100dayproject

The ants from yesterday have moved off thanks to the ant killer I spread out.  Probably they just made a bigger tunnel under the house or something!

A little snowdrop that is falling down now resting on a leaf.  A helping hand when you need it.

A strong wind blew late yesterday.  I found a limb resting on the leaves in the flower bed.  No damage!

I have been watching these pods where the daffodils were.  I don't know if they are seed pods or what.
I need to do some research.  I know daffodils are bulbs but they had to start from something. Right?

Embrace this Space Day 47/100dayproject

Two things in the flower bed today that were different from yesterday!

ANTS!!!    A fire ant mound in the flower bed.  These nasty critters will somehow build a mound overnight especially after a rain.  So I had to put some ant killer on the mound and hope it will drive them to my neighbors yard.  I am mean that way.

The second thing was something...I am almost positive it was a squirrel...dug up an allium bulb.  Just one, did not eat it and left it next to a snowdrop.    So I stuck in back in the hole and hope for that it wasn't traumatized.   Also hoping the critter will leave them alone!

Embrace this Space Day 44/100dayproject

Some new growth coming up along the brick wall.

I think these might be day lilies but I am not sure.

The same plant but they all look different.

That is so amazing when you think about it.

If they bloom, it will be a surprise!

Embrace this Space Day 43/100dayproject

At each end of the flower bed I have forsythia bushes.

They are framing the green of the non-blooming daffodils leaves.

Embrace this Space Day 42/100dayproject

This little fat frog asks if you see the allium starting to shoot up!

I used a toilet paper roll cut in two inch circles to mark the location of the bulbs.
Then I know for sure that what I am seeing is my bulb and not a weed!
You can barely see the outline of the paper.

Repurpose the garbage!

Thanks to the bees that are showing up to visit!   Always welcome at my house!

This one kept flying between me and the flower bed.

Which was good as I had the 24mm lens on the camera so no zooming except with my feet.

      I think she likes me!

Embrace this Space Day 40/100dayproject

Returned home from a three day trip hoping to see more flowers blooming in this space.
Only three little snowdrops.  Even the daffodils are gone.
Something is very strange here!

I have thought about the many reasons why the daffodils did not bloom as well as last year.  Too much rain, too cold, I separated last fall and replanted them, not enough plant food.   Or my green thumb is turning dark!

The daffodils in the mountains of North Carolina three hours away were showing out.   They were everywhere; in yards, along the ditch of the road, in the forest and along the creeks and rivers.  That takes care of the reason being too cold...it snowed up there about 3 weeks ago and it was frosty two of the three mornings I was there.   Plus the daffodils are basically wild along the road and the forest so no one takes care of them.

So I will just let this space be.   I have some allium planted and I am going to put some dahlia bulbs in the front part for summer bloom.     Maybe those will flower!

I don't know how boring this space will get in the next month while the other plants start growing! At least the project is almost half way.
