The shoots of spring flowers are up above the brick border now and several have buds forming.  We are having temps in the 50s so I think all the spring bulbs are raring to burst through the soil to get out in the sunshine.  Or maybe they are just taking their time.

              This gazania has survived the winter but I don't even know if it will bloom again as this was the first year that I planted them.   Another thing to watch closely to see if it will get a bud.

In the flower bed, there is something else growing that should not be there.  It is amazing how plants will grow where they land.  This little thing might be the beginning of a big pine tree!  Or it could be just a weed.  

I had planned to run out to get a couple photos of the waterdrops on the new growth for my photo today but when I got down on my knees with the camera there were some surprises.

The biggest surprise was this bud which I don't remember seeing yesterday.  Maybe it was there and maybe it was not.    Maybe I did not see it yesterday because I did not get down on my knees at eye level.  In the rain.    Maybe it shot up during the night.  I don't even know what it is for sure as there are several different kinds of plants here.  

Plants are amazing.  How fast do they grow?   What changes will I see tomorrow?  

  

I know I will be looking much more closely down on my knees or even laying on the ground.

Manual focus, Aperture priority at 2.8   I let the camera choose the ISO and the shutter speed and shot in jpeg mode.    I did no editing at all on these photos.   

 

Embrace This Space- Day 1/100dayproject

Beginning January 31, 2021, this space will be the space for a 100 day photo project.  Each day a photo or photos will be taken to show the different ways that plants change as spring approaches where I live. This flower bed has some perennials that are already  coming back up but I will also be doing some clean up and dressing up of the bed as the weather warms up.

I have also challenged myself to really step up my photography by using manual mode on the camera instead of taking an iphone photo.  Some days that may be the case but most days it will be the Canon SL1 with the 24mm prime lens.  Using this lens means I will have to use my feet to zoom in or out of my subject. Which will be a challenge in itself.  Maybe I will get an "artsy" shot!  

Watching flowers emerge from their winter sleep is very special to me.    Paying extra attention to them will surely open my eyes to more amazement.  There might even be some "wildlife" later.  

Photography is an adventure!
